LangJournal's AI assistant Zena remembers facts about you from the diaries you write and your AI chats, as "memory". This article explains how the memory feature works and how to manage it.
What Is Memory?
Memory is what lets Zena act like a teacher who knows you well. Zena remembers things like your family, work, and learning goals, and weaves them naturally into later conversations and comments.
- Write "I'm taking the TOEIC in October" in a diary, and Zena will keep your goal in mind in later chats
- You no longer need to re-introduce yourself or repeat the same context every time
What Is Remembered
Only long-lived facts from what you write — things that still matter in later conversations.
- Family, work, hobbies, interests
- Recurring habits (like jogging every Saturday)
- Future plans, ongoing topics, major events
- Learning goals (target exams and dates, where you use the language)
What Is Not Remembered
- One-off content (weather, meals, small daily happenings)
- Health conditions, religion, politics, and other sensitive information
- Grammar mistake tendencies (you can review these in the Insights screen instead)
- Roleplay (training) conversations. Fictional scenarios could mix in, so memory is never used there
Where It Is Used
- AI chats about your diaries
- Zena's comments on the Home screen
Review, Pause, and Delete
You can manage memory anytime from Settings > Memory.
- Review: Tap "Manage memory" to see the list of what Zena remembers
- Pause: Turn off "Use memory" to stop remembering new things and using memory in conversations. Saved items are kept
- Delete: Delete items one by one or all at once from the list. Deleting memory does not delete your original diaries or chats
- If something is inaccurate, delete it or simply correct it in a chat ("actually, that's wrong") and it will be updated next time
Retention
Memory has no expiration and is kept until you delete it. When you delete your account, all data including memory is deleted.
